Blupath, a specialist provider of IoT and Physical Web communication solutions, is introducing its ‘Infopoint’ solution for museums, galleries, and other indoor spaces, with a deployment in the  temporary exhibition of the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia entitled “Threads of Tradition: Laces and Lace Embroideries of Cyprus”.

‘Infopoint’ is a powerful indoor solution that allows any space such as a museum or gallery to engage with its visitors. The system works by installing inexpensive and discrete infopoints within an exhibition space that combine different connectivity technologies in order to deliver rich information to any visitor interacting with them.

The temporary exhibition “Threads of Tradition: Laces and Lace Embroideries of Cyprus” aims to offer to the visitor a new opportunity to experience and to learn on the subject of Cypriot lace and lace embroidery, invaluable elements of the island’s intangible cultural heritage. Using the Infopoint solution the museum is able to present videos showcasing the various laces and lace embroideries making techniques through the phones of its visitors alongside the actual live exhibits of lacework in the gallery.

The videos are a co-production of the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia and the Cyprus Handicraft Services of the Ministry of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism, with camera and editing by Paschalis Papapetrou. The whole project is of extraordinary cultural value, having offered the opportunity to document lace making techniques which are rarely used anymore.  The infopoint system has assisted the gallery in raising awareness about the importance of preserving the island’s cultural heritage and knowledge.

Infopoint is designed to complement or replace any existing audio or electronic guide system with a less expensive yet more powerful system, that utilizes the mobile phones of visitors as the media playback device, without the need to force visitors to download third party software, or hire expensive guide hardware. The system combines a series of capabilities:

  • Communication of rich multimedia information about any exhibit or gallery room
  • Wayfinding capabilities by displaying the visitor’s current position on a map of the space
  • Collection of feedback and comments from visitors
  • Analysis and statistics regarding visitor engagement with any exhibit or solution
  • Possibility to increase revenue of a space by charging for access to the presented information
